Our logo has many meanings

First – the overall shape is that of a power button,
Second – the coloured is green to display to signal on, ready to go and all is good.
Third – meaning is the 0 and 1 of the binary system used in computing.
The outside circle is a 0 and the vertical line is a 1.
Fourth – but what about the blue circles and lines? With the implementation of these seemingly needless objects, the logo now resembles the Ubuntu logo (pictured below)… which possesses a philosophy the team here at Area I.T. believe in.
The Ubuntu symbol is a well recognized symbol of the open source community.
Area I.T. supports the open source community and believe in the attributes of the Ubuntu philosophy.
The word Ubuntu itself according to the oxford dictionary means “A quality that includes the essential human virtues; compassion and humanity”. The logo is essentially a re-drawn ‘Circle of Friends’ (pictured below) placed within a roundel.
The outside of the symbol depicted is a simple shape, a circle. To go in a bit more detail, a circle is a closed two-dimensional plane curve at which every point is equal distance from the center.
But why is it significant?
In Ancient Greek culture the circle was thought of as the perfect shape. To the Greeks the circle was a symbol of the divine symmetry and balance in nature. Greek mathematicians were fascinated by the geometry of circles and explored their properties for centuries.
That’s cool… but Greek times were over two millennia ago! Why do you bring this up?
Circles are still symbolically important today – they are often used to symbolize harmony and unity. For instance, take a look at the Olympic symbol. It has five interlocking rings of different colours, which represent the five major continents of the world united together in a spirit of healthy competition. Perhaps you have never stopped to think about them, but circles are everywhere and they really are fascinating as well as beautiful.
Further in-depth into the meaning of this simple connecting curved line. Being so simple leaves it open to interpretation, however a general theme applies, that is one of positivity, balance and cycles. The circle is a universal symbol with extensive meaning. It represents the notions of totality, wholeness, original perfection, the self, the infinite, eternity, timelessness and all cyclic movement. The circle symbolizes potential, or the embryo. It implies an idea of movement, and symbolizes the cycle of time, the perpetual motion of everything that moves, the planets’ journey around the sun, the great rhythm of the universe.
Incorporating this extensive meaning into our logo was one of our foremost goals.
